The latter kept going out after about half an hour even when the dial showed it as on. We have a gas fireplace in our living room. Heat n glo fireplace fire goes out after a while after 20 min or sometimes up to 1 hour but pilot stays on. Any air in the line should be looooong gone.

After doing some research however i now have basic knowledge about gas fires and have successfully fixed my gas fire. 15 20 minutes and other times an hour or two. After it goes out and i attempt to relight it the burners will only stay lit for about 5 mins. This action will start the gas flow into the fireplace logs.
