Garage Door Chain Off Sprocket

Turn the nut s facing the opener motor one half turn clockwise by hand.

This will release the door from the garage door opener. Loosen the nut s facing the door five full turns with a 7 16 inch wrench. There should be one or two nuts at each side of the anchor. 2 move the ladder to the outer end of the chain arm near the garage door.

After close examination we found the chain was off track. Use a screwdriver to remove the snap on cover where the chain wraps around the sprocket at the upper side of the motor. This will loosen the chain and give you more slack to place the chain back over the sprockets. A new front sprocket costs.

Pull the chain off the motor unit sprocket and out of the chain spreader. When used on tube shafts it is advisable to fill the tube shaft with a steel or wood dowel in the area of the sprocket and through bolt the sprocket. Around this sprocket as well as the gear and sprocket at the motor. Remove the outer nut and lock washer from the trolley threaded shaft and pull the threaded shaft out of the trolley.

The reason the chain went off track was because the chain. Garage door didn t open in the morning. Lay the chain on the garage floor while you complete the repair.
